Decades later, the names have disappeared. A rare survivor, BMW 6-series coupe, somehow persists against all odds and has been redesigned for 2012.
Two-door luxury is almost dead. Decades ago, the big coupes like the Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado, Buick Riviera, and Lincoln Mark series ruled as symbols of man's success and the door, the most important man.
The last of the series 6 is a throwback to the days in the new mean longer, lower and wider. The overall length is up to 2.6 inches, 1.6 inches width increases, and the roof is 0.2 inches lower. Manual changes are short and precise, making it one of the best BMW clubs we sampled. However, the rapid eight-speed automatic transmission seems more in line with the confidence of effort coupe. It provides manual control via paddle or shift lever, if the driver feel like participating in mischief.


The 650i has the calm misconduct. Press the driving dynamic control to exit the comfort and sport settings, and automatic transmission, throttle, steering and suspension turn naughty. Rigid Shocks, the engine throttle becomes more sensitive and rapid transmission of slowing down and has more gears. Opting for the sport mode also increases the effort of the electric power steering system. But do not confuse the steering effort for tactile feedback. This BMW is the first without the second. Want to feel a good direction? Buy a Porsche 911. If we define good handling as the combination of great grip and an almost uncanny lack of body roll, the 650i would be an excellent driver. But we do not. Hugely capable, the 650i has higher limits, but even with a manual transmission, lack of information and clear communication that make driving interesting and involving. The 650i does all the work, the driver barely participates.
Participate in the experience 650i requires $ 83,875 a share too. Our sample was almost charged over $ 100K, a price that ensures that only the need to implement successfully. Despite being one of the last of its kind, the design of the 650i and performance to avoid that feels anachronistic.


Big coupes in general and the BMW 650i, in particular, remain a theatrical fashion statement in a landscape full of gray-suit sedan. It's just one unless you are willing to bear. The irony here is that, despite making some truly lovely BMW two-door in recent years, no other automaker has actually more to undermine the cause of stylish coupes, making four-door sedan appeal to the younger and Sport-buyers.
